About GYLI

Centering Youth in the Climate Intervention Conversation

Who We Are

The Global Young Leaders Initiative (GYLI) is a platform for young leaders — those most affected by climate threats — to be at the forefront of future developments in climate intervention research and policy.

Launched in response to a gap in youth inclusion in climate intervention discussions, GYLI is [consists of] co-led by a group of youth-led climate organizations from around the world.

Our Mission

To empower and meaningfully integrate young climate leaders and professionals into global discussions on climate intervention, especially Solar Radiation Modification (SRM), to ensure youth understand, contribute to, and shape the future of climate research and policy.

Our Goals

Build a strong network of young leaders contributing to climate intervention research and policy.

Deepen youth's understanding of SRM science and its implications.

Support youth-led organizations with mentorship, tools, and global connections.

Raise the voices and influence of young people in public dialogue and decision-making.

Increase meaningful youth participation in SRM discussions.

Our Origin: The Youth Call to Action

GYLI began in July 2021 during the first-ever Global Youth Summit on Sunlight Reflection, where young leaders from around the world developed the foundational Youth Call to Action — a detailed, youth-led proposal presented at COP26.

Where We Work

GYLI works globally — with youth focal points in countries across the Global South, Nordic region, Arctic, and more. Our events and summits span continents, bringing local expertise into global spaces like COP29, COP30, and the ECOSOC Youth Forum.
